Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka was the first African woman elected by the United Nations General Assembly to the rank of Under-Secretary-General.
Elected in 2002 as Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, she was the daughter of coffee and bean farmers from Muleba and studied at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala.
